Our Mission & Inspiration

Our inspiration for Mini Mind & Motion stems from the growing concerns around children’s mental health, which is increasingly impacted by overstimulation - often linked to excessive screen time, and the pressures of modern society. Research shows that practising mindfulness can enhance self-esteem, support emotional regulation, and equip children with the tools they need to thrive during their formative years.

What we do:

Our primary aim is to provide age-appropriate and play-based mindfulness sessions combining only the best mindfulness concepts. These include yoga, guided meditation, mindful crafts, low-stimulating activities, movement, and affirmations - to encourage and embed the qualities of resilience, courage, self-love, empathy, and a growth mindset.

We recognise the importance of 'slowing down' and the many benefits it has on a child's brain development:

The prefrontal cortex manages attention and impulse control, and is still maturing in early childhood. Evidence shows that mindfulness training supports activation and density in this area of the brain, helping children concentrate better in school and daily tasks.

The amygdala controls emotional responses such as fear and anger. Due to children's excitable and curious nature, this area is usually overactive. Mindfulness practise can help calm the amygdala and support children in 'slowing down', thus helping them feel less overwhelmed, have fewer emotional outbursts, and better cope with change.

The hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis is activated by stress and releases cortisol. Practising mindfulness can lower cortisol levels in children, helping them feel calmer and less anxious. This will result in greater confidence and therefore increase resilience and embed a 'can-do' attitude. Children who practise mindfulness regularly are shown to achieve better academic performance, largely due to improved memory and focus.

Children's brains are highly plastic as they are developing rapidly. The skills they will learn from Mini Mind & Motion can set lifelong patterns of attention, resilience and self-awareness. Early training and intervention will help protect against later mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, and concentration difficulties.
